Cognitive Psychology : Basics

Cognitive Psychology
is study of attention, memory, language, perception and thinking in humans
is the systematic study of human mind and how it processes information
also deals with pattern recognition, imagery, nueroscience, intelligence etc.,

The human mind has 3 kinds of processors
- Sensorial/ Perceptual : Ears & Eyes : These store visual and auditory data.
- Motor : Fingers & Hands
- Cognitive :

There are basically 3 kinds of memories:
Sensory memory, Working memory (short term) and Long term memoryand there is an additional one called ” Haptic” ( touch)

The human mind moves data from sensory memory to working memory and then to long term memory

    I am surprised people are interested in cognitive psychology in india. I did my psychology maters and undergrads from presidency, chennai. I havent much studied cognitive psychology, but i am doing another masters in england in cognitive neuropsychology. If there is any information you need regarding cognitive, feel free to mail me.

    This is the first time I’ve really done any “blog-trawling” but I must say that I’m amazingly interested in the cognitive application to UI. I think it’s something that GNU/Linux could really benefit from – not that the interfaces aren’t good enough already.
    Let me know if you find some good material – always nice to be provided with references and journals for some casual reading.
